The History of Kinesio Tape

As an effective way of supporting muscles and joints, Kinesio taping was developed based on the body’s own natural healing processes.  Most commonly, it is used for preventative maintenance and in treating athletic injuries.  In the 1970s, Dr. Kenzo Kase developed the Kinesio tape concept.  As a chiropractor, Dr. Kase created this taping method to help treat injuries without inhibiting the range of motion.  This was particularly important for athletes that were still participating in their sport or in training, in spite of their injury.  By supporting joints and muscles, this technique aids in the natural healing processes of lymphatic and muscle systems.

Kinesio tape first went from being used by chiropractors and medical professionals in the beginning to being used widely in athletics today.  It was introduced to sports when it was used by the Japanese Olympic team in 1988, and was soon being used by athletes of all times.  This taping method is still used to treat many non-sports related injuries as well, because it offers patients a natural way to promote healing and provide therapy to the injured muscles or joints.  It is also said to improve circulation and inflammation, which allows injuries to heal even faster.
